16.06.23.

ME80 updated to version 2.71. Use the same download links as version 2.0.

  • After the addition of new filters, the coloured Yamaha preset buttons (like FUNKY1) could default to notch filters. That is fixed.
  • When importing patches from earlier versions, the ME80 will detect it and set Harmonics sliders to max. In earlier versions the Harmonics sliders affected only the sine wave. And the sine wave has only 1 harmonic. Because of that users have set harmonics to random values since it had no impact on sound. In version 2.7 the Harmonics sliders affect all oscillators in the synth. To make all imported patches sound correct , it will set older patches to max harmonics.
  • Adam Borseti bank will now load correct. It was the 2 things mentioned above that was the problem. And we made a new modelled square wave in version 2.7. To make the Adam Borseti bank sound like before the squares should be changed to the old square (OSq). The new modelled saw is not so different from the old saw, so no need to change it to old saw (OSw). The new modelled waveshapes in version 2.7 have both changed waveforms and added overdrive. Guitar and clav sounds tend to sound a bit better with the old square.
  • 5 new patches in the factory bank, 3 new patches in the extra bank, 1 new patch in the electro bank and 128 new patches in the New_features bank.
  • The New_features bank is a collection of sounds using expanded features in ME80 that is not possible in a CS80 like: Different wheel destinations, mono legato mode, poly pan spread, dist modes, eq used as a filter, new waveforms and new filter models. Here you can find moog basses, moog leads, oberheim flavours and a collection of distortion sounds. The other banks are strictly CS80 sounds. They have unison, but CS80 doctor Kent Spong install unison mode in CS80 synths, so that is possible in a CS80.
  • Some LFO sync sounds had aftertouch to LFO speed, causing them to go out of sync when using aftertouch. Fixed.
  • Have switched to old square where it sounded better. (Mostly guitar and clav type sounds). The new saw seems to make all sounds better, so I kept it.
  • All volumes adjusted to make sounds equal, and generally louder, also checked aftertouch and that they not overdrive with max aftertouch.

Some people experience that the ME80 will not show up on windows10 machines. New Win10 systems don't have all the historical runtime dlls installed. Then you will have to put msvcp100.dll and msvcr100.dll manually in the C:/windows/system folder. The files are available from Microsoft.

ME80 updated to version 2.7. Use the same download links as version 2.0.

  • Saw and Square wave modelled after CS80. The old waveforms are slill available from the waveform list selectors as OSw and OSq. And the overdrive is modelled.
  • New filter models: Hpf B, Lpf B, Hpf C, Lpf C, Hpf D, LPF D, BPF (Bandpass) and Notch.
  • Extended range for pulse-width modulation to match the CS80 range better.
  • Triangle harmonics (drift page) now set the harmonics for all waveforms in the synth.

Some people experience that the ME80 will not show up on windows10 machines. New Win10 systems don't have all the historical runtime dlls installed. Then you will have to put msvcp100.dll and msvcr100.dll manually in the C:/windows/system folder. The files are available from Microsoft.

Messiah updated to version 2.2. Update is free. You can use same download links as version 2.0.

Improvements in version 2.2:
  • The middle sized skin (HD) has been changed to fit 1920x1080 monitors The skin size comes in 3 sizes. The skin size will not take effect until you close the GUI and open it again. The skin selector is in the upper left corner of the GUI. You can select from SD, HD and 4k.
  • Extended frequency range for P5 filter.
  • Level compensation for LadderA filter , so that it will keep constant level when doing self-oscillaton.
  • New button in the envelope section for pick-up mode. Pick-up mode means that envelopes will start at last used voltage instead of zero. It is the way analog envelopes work. I set almost all presets to pick up mode, except arp sounds and a few others that benefited from start at zero.
  • New CC control template for Sequential Take5. To load: Hit "File" next to the LCD display. Then "Load CC MIDI map". You can also save your own CC setups from the "File" menu. You can hit "messiah_clear_all_CC" to remove the preset CC setup before you make your own. Then just right-click the knob you want to assign.
  • 154 new sounds
  • 8 new factory sounds
  • 2 new sounds in bank c
  • 17 new sounds to complete bank k
  • A brand new minimog_OBXA soundbank l with 127 new sounds.
  • The number of sounds that is available from the "bank" button: 1397 sounds.

New Win10 systems don't have all the historical runtime dlls installed. Maybe you will have to put msvcp100.dll and msvcr100.dll manually in the C:/windows/system folder. The files are available from Microsoft.

On old Windows 32 bit systems it is necessary to install latest Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Update 3. Just search for Microsoft Visual C++ and download it from microsoft`s webpage. The install takes 10 seconds. If you fail to do this you will get the windows error: The file MSVCP140 not found!

ME80 updated to version 2.6. Use the same download links as version 2.0.

  • No Mac version. We did not leave Mac, Mac left us. They do not support the framework ME80 was built on any more.
  • Have replaced 30 patches in the factory bank.

    Replaced:

24 patches in the extra bank.

10 patches in the electronica bank (lots of new unison sounds).

    12 patches in the Robin_Grinnall_bank.

ME80 comes with 512 presets. You will find the "bank" button in the upper left corner of the GUI. The installer will install all 4 banks.

  • Vintage knob.

It is the PW sliders on the drift page. They now give: Time variations per voice for the envelopes, PW (pulse-width) variations per voice, and Cutoff (filter2 , LPF) variations for the filter.

ME80 already has an advanced system for pitch drift with sliders for each synthline for: Random pitch at each note with depth sliders for each synthline, and LFOs for drifting up and down with depth and speed sliders for each synthline.

  • 14 new oscillator waveforms. Existing Sin/Tri Harmonics setting acts as Hard LPF, most noticable tonal changes under 32 harmonics

Dont worry that it will not sound like a CS80 anymore! Only 2 sounds in the factory bank use the new waveforms.

And only 2 sounds in the factory bank use the unison function. Look in the elektronica bank for unison sounds.

  • 16 complicated delay timings algorithms instead of 1x and 2x. Delay/Echo new Syncopation options allow rhythmic Echoes for more creative options 'T1...' can operate as a stereo enhancer with short delay times
  • 2 new distortion models.
  • Fixed muffled startup sound in unison mode.
  • Random patch generator for synthlines: Now gives random waveforms for all oscillators. Also will randomize the sine wave, but it will get much lower level so that it will not overpower the sound.
  • Unison Pan Spread now also applies to Polyphony
  • Pan now works in poly mode. Unison Pan spread assigns a Pan position to Each Voice so the Polyphonic option works in the same way. Voice 1 is Central then additional voices are panned Left/Right at various points progressively from wide to central
  • 8 new Reverb Types R1...R7 + STD (STD is original)

Generally R1,2.. are tight Room type reverbs

    R3,4,5 are middle range

    R6,R7 utilise Lexicon Timings

  • Reverb PreDly Button: When On a PreDelay is applied. For tight R1,R2 this is in SlapBack range 40-50ms, R3,4,5 60-70ms, R6,7,STD is 100ms
  • Reverb Filter Type: HPF, BPF, NOTCH, LPF. Control Links with the Damp knob and greatly alters the tone of the Reverb
  • When you combine: Pan per voice, advanced tuning options per voice and synthline, cutoff per voice, PW per voice and Cutoff per voice, envelope time drift per voice, the ME80 can now produce a much wider stereo image, and each voice will sound different.
  • ME80 version 2.6 coded by Chris Kerry. Small and big skin by Scott Cane.

Some people experience that the ME80 will not show up on windows10 machines. New Win10 systems don't have all the historical runtime dlls installed. Then you will have to put msvcp100.dll and msvcr100.dll manually in the C:/windows/system folder. The files are available from Microsoft.

Messiah updated to version 2.15. Update is free. You can use same download links as version 2.0.

Improvements in version 2.15:
  • No Mac version. We did not leave Mac, Mac left us. They do not support the framework Messiah was built on any more.
  • Have replaced 46 patches in the factory bank.

All extra banks improved. To load a new bank just hit "Bank" button next to the LCD display. Lots of new sounds in the extra banks. Weak patches has been replaced, and some banks have been totally reworked.

  • Messiah now comes with 1377 presets. I think it is enough, so this time I tried to replace the weakest, rather than increasing the number.
  • Original Prophet5 presets improved and moved to the last bank "k_fx_bass".
  • New Prophet5 rev4 controller template. The installer will install these templates and all the soundbanks a - k. To use a CC template just hit on messiah GUI: File(next to the LCD display)/load CCmap/prophet5 rev4.

There are already CC-templates for: Minilogue2.0 , MoogSUB37, NordStage3, OB6 , Prophet6 , Prophet REV2 , RolandXa (this synth will send very few CC messages, so the control is limited) , Roland System8 and Soundforce SFC5. And on the download page you will find messiah controller templates that you can load into the controller with their editor. The latest one is Alkex Professor2 template.

  • New reverb templates with Lexicon settings. Now Messiah comes with 18 effect templates with names like: Plate, Cathedral, Med Hall, Big Hall, Large room, Fat room. Improved juno106 chorus template and now also chorus template for juno106 chorus2. The Roland 106 chorus was intended for 1 osc type sounds, and can feel a little seasick on full 2 osc sounds. All the Lexicon templates have set the chorus to Roland 106 style.
  • New vintage knob: Card Drift Pulse knob now works as a Vintage knob with random timing changes to AMP & Filter Envelope times (in addition to variations of pulse width).
  • Two New Distortion Models added into the Empty ('none') slots
  • 8 Reverb Types : R1...R7 + STD (STD is original) Generally R1,2.. are tight Room type reverbs R3,4,5 are middle range R6,R7 utilise Lexicon Timings
  • Reverb Filter damp options: LPF, BPF, NOTCH, HPF links with Damping GUI Control
  • 16 new Delay/Echo Syncopation Modes (in addition to the old 2x right mode).
  • LFO2: New Target: OscAB (sends to OSCA and OSCB Pitch)
  • LFO3: New Target: OscAB (sends to OSCA and OSCB Pitch)
  • Delayed LFOs now Retrigger on fresh note even when current sounds are fading/releasing
  • Bend Range expanded options: 2nd, 5th, Oct, Oct2, Oct3 (36 semi) to make it easier to use with MPE controllers.
  • GUI Envelope Panels Swapped so they match the GUI Panel description
  • Messiah version 1.15 coded by Chris Kerry. Skin by Grophomet.

Messiah updated to version 2.1. Update is free. You can use same download links as version 2.0.

Improvements in version 2.1:
  • New skin by Graphomet. The skin size is in 3 sizes. You select the size in the upper left corner. Changes will not take effect until you close the GUI and open it again.
  • Sound engine oversampled 4x
  • Attack times are now true 0s at minimum attack.
  • Delay knob for LFO2 and LFO3. This allows for slowly LFO fade in.
  • New "Thump" button in the envelopes. Gives a 4ms hold time for the VCA envelope like the minimoog with its clipped envelopes.
  • New "NOTE ON SYNC" button in the oscillator section. Normally the oscillators are free running. The downside to this might be that each note will start with slightly different phase, and sometimes two oscillators will phase each other out. We added this knob so that you can be sure that every note has the same energy at note start. This is especially useful for bass patches. You will find a similar button on the moog minitaur.
  • New CC presets for many hardware synthesizers. To load a CC preset hit: "File" button, and then browse to C://Documents-and-settings/All-users/Shared-documents/Messiah/presets. In the Messiah/banks folder you will find all the banks installed. CC presets included for the following synths: Minilogue2.0 , MoogSUB37, NordStage3, OB6 , Prophet6 , Prophet REV2 , RolandXa (this synth will send very few CC messages, so the control is limited) , Roland System8 and Soundforce SFC5.
  • New destination for mod wheel: Chorus speed. This is to allow the mod wheel to control leslie speed in organ patches.

  • MPE mode (Top right corner on the GUI) and option to reverse aftertouch and slide (CC74 button) operation for Roli keyboards.
  • Increased effect from the "aftertouch to level" slider. Existing patces will have more aftertouch effect even with the old settings.
  • When we increased the aftertouch to level slider range, we also had to increase the effect of the built in level compensation system. This is intended to prevent digital clipping in you DAW when using aftertouch. It works this way: When you increase the "Aftertouch to level" slider, the compensation system will lower master volume. You can switch the system off/on from the button below the master volume knob.
  • Many small tweaks and adjustments in the factory bank.
  • "Biggest ME80" - totally changed.
  • "Pizzicato" - replaced by "Rubber piano"
  • "--PRODUCTION----" replaced by , well "----PRODUCTION---" (but it is a different sound)

Improvements in version 2.0:
  • Comes in 32/64 bit versions for Windows and Mac. Mac installer will install both AU and VST version.
  • Messiah2 is built from scratch and programmed by Chris Kerry.
  • 4 times better resolution in the oscillators. This gives more body to the sound. More bass and more pleasant highs.
  • New filter models: Biquad LFP, HPF and BPF. MiniA. MiniB LPF, HPF, BPF. Funky: LFP, HPF. P5: LPF, HPF and BPF. P5 filter modelled after Rev3 Prophet5.

  • The synth is not directly compatible with Messiah 1.3. But we made a converter for 1.3 patches. Click file - then Load/import bank. Then Messiah2.0 will recognize messiah 1.3 banks, and use a conversion program to import the bank. You can install Messiah 2.0 and Messiah 1.3 on the same machine.
  • Group presets for Effects, Gate and oscillator settings.
  • File commands: Load/save presets. Copy/paste. Load (and import)/save banks. Load/save MIDI CC map.
  • LFO 2, 3 and 4 is expanded to full LFOs. Destinations: PW A, PW B, OscA, OscB, Filter, Amp and Pan.
  • Phase start for all LFOs. (You find LFO1 phase start in lower right corner on the LFO page). New Amp destination is designed to emulate Sidechain comressor when phase start is set to 50.
  • Expanded gate: Set the total number of steps from 1-16. (set it to 12 when using triplets). Pitch and Cutoff gate have depth controls and glide controls. New off/on gate for each step. Steps that are next to each other can be tied with a "TIE" button. Pitch is from -12 to +12 semitones.
  • New distortion model (model STD, and we kept to old one ORIGINAL) , new phaser, new ensemble effect based on the Polysix ensemble.
  • New delay options: Quality knob to emulate Bucket Brigade Delay. Wheel (CC1) can control delay level.
  • For the first time Messiah comes with a reverb. If you think it is too much reverb, there is factory bank with less FX.
  • New oscillator waveforms: Cluster3, Cluster4 and Bell.
  • MPE mode (Bottom switch right corner on the GUI) and option to reverse aftertouch and slide (CC74) operation for Roli keyboards.
  • Option to make GUI 200% bigger. (SD - HD switch upper left corner on the GUI). It will not take effect until you close the GUI and open it again.

  • Full 128 patch factory bank + a full 128 patch extra bank. Uploaded to the download page.
  • Bigger GUI versions available on request for high resolution monitors with 1920x1080 resolution.
  • Patch names correctly displayed in hosts like Cantabile and Live. Still som wrong names in MuLab and Mac Garageband. Patch recall in Live fixed.
  • Improved note stealing. Fixed muted notes.
  • Loading Presets/Banks caused problems in some hosts when 'suspended' causing the factory sounds to still play. Now Fixed.
  • Random sliders for pitch and PW. Set independentyly for each syntyhline. Emulates the differences between the 8 voicecards that comes from aging components, heat and poorly calibrated synths.
  • Added overdrive and 3 band EQ pre and 3 band EQ post. When overdrive is "off" you can use the both EQs as a big 6 band Equalizer. Volume compensated overdrive. You can adjust EQ with GUI or old-style knobs. Midi-learn (and unlearn) for all bands. It is a Fully Parametric EQ; Frequency, Gain and Width(Q) controls - All can be automated or set to MidiCC/NRPN. Midi-learn implemented in the old-style knobs.
  • Removed VCF LEVEL and LEVEL sliders from the random function since they are only volume sliders and tend to create silent sounds.
  • The WHEEL slider - still has VCO and VCF destinatiions, but there is a new button to select to send the modulation directly to VCO and VCF when the new button is "on", or you can send it as LFO modulation to VCO and VCF when the new button is "off".
  • "Portamento foot switch" function now controlled by CC64 (Sustain pedal). It was CC65 in the 2.0 version. When "portamento foot switch" is on - then the normal sustain pedal hold function is disabled. (User request)
  • GUI envelopes and GUI EQ in grey colours as requested at KVR.
  • Demo versions with silence at 15 -20 seconds intervals available. Uploaded to the download page.

Some information about how the EQ GUI Window works:

Press RIGHT-CLICK and drag - this alters WIDTH/Q(L/R) and GAIN(U/D)

Press LEFT-CLICK and Drag - this alters FREQ(L/R) and GAIN(U/D)

If you Double Click on an EQ Band it will reset the Gain to Zero

Hint about fine adjustments: You can press Ctrl to do fine adjustments, and Ctrl+Shift to do even finer adjustments.

Current pre-set CC numbers:

CC1 Mod wheel

CC2 Breath control (routed to the aftertouch system inside the synth).

CC7 Master volume

CC11 Expression pedal - there is a selector in ME80 to select exp, wah or exp+wah.

The wah-knob is simply a monitor for the expression pedal, it will move when you move the exp pedal. You can right-click to set it to another value than CC11 or unlearn it. It is very useful for instance if you have no sound, then you can look at the wah/exp-knob and see its position.

CC25 pre EQ mid band freq (can be unlearned).EQ band CC's are pre-set for the Novation Launchpad mini knobs 5,6,7,8.

CC26 pre EQ mid band gain (can be unlearned).

CC27 post EQ mid band freq (can be unlearned).

CC28 post EQ mid band gain (can be unlearned).

CC64 Normal Sustain pedal , or longer release when the "Sustain foot switch" is activated, and portamento off/on when the "Portamento foot switch" is activated.

CC69 (avoid this , used for sustain pedals in many controllers)

CC120(avoid this - all sounds off)

RG sounds made by Robin Grinnall

Rylo3 sounds made by Shaun Rylands

DW sounds by Darren W

DL sounds by David Lee.

A soundtrack from Shaun Rylands. It is all ME80 v 2.1 and is inspired Vangelis Beaubourg. It shows off the more experimental side of the synth:

Vangelis-beauborg-tribute.

ME80 v2.0 played by Peter Baldwin. It is 5 instances of an ME80, 1 Tal Bassline put through NI Guitar Rig ring mod, 1 Gforce Oddity warped to near destruction, and everything put through Audio Damage Eos reverbs: Simulacrum-001.

ME80 updated to version 2.0

Rebuilt from scratch by Chris Kerry.

Windows 32/64bit

Mac 32/64bit

To install:

Windows: Double click the installer, specify your VST-plugins folder and follow the instructions.

To uninstall: use the Control-Panel/install-uninstall programs. Always uninstall before installing a new version. (The installer will not work when there is already a ME80v2 installed).

Apple MAC: Double click the installer (.pkg) file and follow the instructions.

Changes:

  • ME80v2 has been built from scratch using CK_Engine.
  • Improved CPU performance. Shorter loading times. GUI delay in Reaper fixed.
  • New Wah function by Chris Kerry (based on the CS80 specification)
  • New Chorus/Tremolo by Chris Kerry (based on the CS80 specification)
  • New Drift/Detune system. Each Row has assignable Analogue Drift, all voices have independent analogue drift - this emulates the natural tuning drift of Analogue circuits. Square and Dual Saw waves have separate positive/negative detuning allowing balanced natural detuned sounds.
  • New Note On SYNC: When OFF, all voice oscillators are free-running. When ON, voice oscillators reset for each Note; Note On Sync generally has a 'tighter' attack sound.
  • New VCF KeyTracking Button: When OFF, a fixed sloping filter response is applied across the keyboard (default). When ON, the filter response is flat.
  • GUI Envelopes: All aspects of the Envelopes can be edited from the GUI. The VCA Envelopes can be extended up to 8 stages with different shapes.
  • Sustain Footswitch Mode: When OFF, the sustain pedal acts as a standard Note Hold. When ON the sustain pedal operates the original CS80 specification by controlling the Sustain Master amount.
  • Aftertouch/Bend Speed: Sets the smoothing/glide response time. For gliding effects use high times, for fast realtime response set the lowest time.
  • Improved smoother reverb with higher density.
  • MIDI LEARN: Right Click on controls to Assign MIDI CC or NRPN. Just move the external controller to assign via MIDI LEARN. Settings apply to all patches in the bank.
  • Deleted the velocity envelope due to user requests - 'INITIAL' now follows the original CS80 specification.

Known issues:

  • ME80v2 is a VST2.4 instrument. Some very old CubaseVST versions like SL3, SX3 and VST24 do not support VST2.4; you can open ME80v2 and play it from the GUI but the instrument can't be selected on a midi track in those programs.
  • Does not work on V-machine. However it seems to work on all Linux system that users have tested.
  • Since ME80v2 has been rebuilt from scratch using a different system the old ME80 patches will not load.

Coded by Chris Kerry (UK)

Patches: Robin Grinnall (RG) and Paul Roach(PR) (Both UK)
